| The beautiful and striking blue color of these place mats will make a wonderful addition to your dining table. These are a heavy cotton weave and has some of the best weaving we have ever seen. This is a set of four place mats.
These are from a Samajel B'atz cooperative known as FLOR DEL CAMPO. Eight women began to work together in 1983, having been widowed as a result of the internal armed conflict. Now ther are 25 Kaqchikel women from the village of Patzaj, municipality of Comalapa, in the province of Chimaltenango, working collectively in order to improve their lives. The weaving cooperative produces handwoven items, made on backstrap and floor looms. They hand-dye some of their threads using natural materials, and they are learning the art of ikat.
Thank you for the beautiful woven placements. The blue color is simply stunning, and I realize now that the photo could not do it justice. I am also thrilled with the unique weaving pattern. These placemats will grace our table for many years to come. -- Mary Ann Woerner |
