The bag measures 15 inches wide and 13 inches tall. These are really magnificent weavings!
These are made by a Samajel B'atz' cooperative known as TEJIDOS IXILES. The cooperative is made up of 55 women, living in eight villages in Nebaj. The group began in 1988 in Las Violetas, Nebaj, in the province of El Quiché, and was legally constituted in 1995. It produces traditional weavings on backstrap looms, using figures that are particular to their villages. The organization aims to preserve the designs and techniques that form part of the Ixil heritage, and generate income that will allow for dignified living conditions. |
