This backpack was created by Marco Lux. Marcos Lux, 35 years old, is a Maya Quiche artisan and merchant, who currently lives in Panajachel, Solola with his wife Juana and their children, twin boys and one girl. Marcos was born in Totonicapan, a heavily forested province in the western part of Guatemala.
Marcos started working as an artisan in Totonicapan when he was 15 years old. He started by sewing pants and shirts; then later learned how to sew other clothes and other popular arts and crafts and accessories. After gaining experience in sewing, he started his own business and organized a production shop in Totonicapan to produce a wide variety of arts and crafts. In 1993, he opened a store in Panajachel and over the years has built up a successful retail and wholesale business with clients in North America and Europe. He employs 17 people, full time, in his shop and they perform a variety of tasks, transforming beautiful weavings and textiles into high quality purses, bags, accessories clothing and arts and crafts |
