| This Guatemalan shawl is simply stunning! It has multiple colors in dark earthtone colors with a wonderful ikat weave included! Click on the picture above for a close up look at the materia. This Guatemalan shawl is lightweight and can be the perfect accent for casual or dressier occasions. The shawl measures 25 inches wide and is 90 inches long from fringe tip to fringe tip.
This is made by a Samajel B'atz' cooperative called FLOR DEL CAMPO. This cooperative began with eight women who began to work together in 1983, having been widowed as a result of the internal armed conflict. Now Flor Del Campo consists of 25 Kaqchikel women from the village of Patzaj, municipality of Comalapa, in the province of Chimaltenango, working collectively in order to improve their lives. They produce handwoven items, made on backstrap and floor looms, they hand-dye some of our threads using natural materials, and are learning the art of ikat. Thanks to the cooperative, they are making a living and have started a few small projects. |
